Burberry Prorsum AW 2012-2013

Pretty preppy bows at Burberry Prorsum.

Jasper Conran AW 2012-2013

Jasper Conran went for structured evening looks. A clear reference to the 60s silhouette.

Mark Fast AW 2012-2013

Blush and pearls on tanned skin never looked as good as on this Mark Fast model.

Matthew Williamson AW 2012-2013

Although Matthew Williamson‘s collection went away from him signature floaty dresses, pret-a-reporter was still stunned by the game of prints and colours on these designs.

McQ AW 2012-2013

McQ is getting closer to the main McQueen line, just a tad bit more casual. Corsets over lace was a big look.

A-line skirts and girly big hair ruled at Moschino Cheap & Chic.

Mulberry AW 2012-2013

Nostalgia to an ending summer is Preen‘s autumn look.

Twenty8Twelve AW 2012-2013

Twenty8Twelve won me over with the middle look. Very London girl, big hair, 50s references and oh-so wearable.

Giles AW 2012-2013

Burnt romance at Giles.

Pret-a-reporter’s picks of NYFW

Pret a reporter pick of NYFW

1. Alexander Wang – as usual relaxed chic with an unexpected slit here and there. Ahh, this coat is something I’d love to wear with barely there shorts.

2. Badgley Mischka – super glamorous and decadent. This deconstructed blush coloured gown looks very vampish with dark lips.

3. Betsey Johnson – so deliciously 80s.

4. BCBG Max Azria – the white dress I’d love to be seen in anytime. No, really, please hand it over to me right now.

5. Carolina Herrera – big hair, long gloves and gowns. Jackie O’s back.

6. DVF – Diane’s collection was a play with colours rather than prints that she specialises in. It was so refreshing. I actually struggled to pick only one look!

7. Donna Karan – the art of being a woman. No one portrays it better than Donna.

8. Doo Ri – it’s not only about drapey jersey anymore – it’s about mixing drapes with other textures. Not keen on hair and make up (or the lack of both?), but the outfit is potential perfection for the office.

9. Helmut Lang – slit, drape, slit, drape and leather up. Such a damn feel good collection.

10. Jenny Packham – a throwback to the 30s and 40s. And Jenny can throw me back there any time she likes as the collection oozed sophistication. Quite refreshing to see constructed outfits when other designers are playing with deconstruction.

11. Oscar de la Renta – I was forcing myself to select one but I physically couldn’t.

12. Narciso Rodriguez – will allow you to show off your perfect pins. Take that opportunity.

13. Prabal Gurung – detailed and extravagant.

14. Zac Posen – belle of the ball, the final frock took my breath away.

The trends that are most definitely here to stay:

  • Long gloves, all around the runways, so you will most likely be wearing long gloves next season, evening out or not;
  • Slits – prepare to stock up on 100 den tights as the skirt you’ll be wearing is going to have a thigh-high slit, no matter its length or the weather;
  • Big hair – we’re talking big, loud volume, people! Just look at Herrera’s girls.

Marc Jacobs + South Park = charity

You know what’s awesome? A South Park tee.

You know what’s even more awesome? A South Park tee by Marc by Marc Jacobs.

But it gets better: you get the top and you help a charity, mainly Melanoma Cooperative Group, which is a Cancer research scheme.

The tees carry a slogan: “Protect Your Largest Organ” with Butters, Randy or Cartman nice and nude.

These are available in Marc by Marc Jacobs boutiques. Aww hamburgers, I want the Butters one so badly!

White lies, white clothes in Two Moon Junction

This is going to be an odd one. I know I have been excessively covering fashion in film lately, but with this freezing weather outside, can you blame me?

You might remember me falling in  love with Audrey Horne of Twin Peaks, who is a character portrayed by Sherilyn Fenn in Twin Peaks, probably my favourite series of all time. This time I am in awe with another persona portrayed by this absolutely gorgeous woman.

Two Moon Junction (1988) is most likely not watched because of its fashion credentials but because of its steamy scenes which have made this film land in the soft-core/erotica category. That also explains the low grade on IMDB. However, after seeing this flick I was in love with all things white, as our fashionable protagonist is wearing nothing but in this movie.

I mean, during a certain sex scene she made a point to leave her white pumps on – how can one not appreciate that? In fact, I don’t know what movie critics don’t like about this film as the shots were tremendous: a gypsy-like travelling fun fair contrasted with the main character who’s status is pretty high up plus wears solely white. Even her hair.

I was very much inspired by this film fashion-wise. As soon as summer rolls in -I am definitely going to opt for a full white outfit.

Movie chic: Audrey Hepburn in How to Steal a Million (1966)

It’s freezing AND miserable outside. Instead of getting slapped by the wind, stepping on the half-melted snow and wishing you’d be elsewhere, you can watch an Audrey Hepburn flick.

We’re probably all tired of Breakfast at Tiffany’s or Sabrina, which is why I’m going to present to you How to Steal a Million (1966), a lesser known but certainly no less charming rom-com.

Parisian chic, Audrey at her funniest, costumes by Givenchy and a great storyline. A perfectly witty stay-in flick. Plus, you’ll be inspired to dress up the first chance you get.
